Emergency Groceries Volunteers are asked to purchase specific grocery items for a family in crisis. Groceries are brought to the Hermes Center kitchen on Sunday morning for four weeks. Commitment: A few times a year.
Meals for New Moms – Volunteers make and deliver a hot meal to a new mom and her family in our parish. Commitment: varies.
Meals for Ill Parishioners – Volunteers make and deliver a hot meal to an ill parishioner and their family to help out during a difficult time. Commitment: varies
Transportation to Mass – As a volunteer, you would provide transportation for a parishioner to the Mass you typically attend on either Saturday evening or Sunday morning, one weekend each month. Commitment: once a month.
Parish Special Projects
Holiday Food Baskets –Committee Members – Meet a few times, beginning in September, to plan for the upcoming holidays. Committee members are assigned different tasks such as contact an area organization to identify families and their needs, place an order for perishable and nonperishable food, order boxes, attend packing events, and organize volunteers. Commitment: 2-3 meetings and 2 events
Volunteers – Volunteers sort donated food and pack boxes on Sunday morning. Volunteers pick up nonperishable food items on a Friday night and perishable food on Monday morning. Volunteers pack perishable food and deliver boxes on a Monday morning. Commitment: 1-2 hours, 1-2 times/year. 2017 Event weekends are Nov. 17-20 and Dec 8-11.
Giving Tree –Agency Leaders – Meet a couple of times beginning in September to plan for the event. Also, each agency leader oversees a group for a particular agency by helping to organize sorting, packing, and checking off gifts on master lists and oversee shopping for missing gifts. Commitment: 1-2 meetings and 2-3 hours for sorting day, once/year. 2017 sorting date is Dec. 10
Volunteers – Volunteers help one night in November to put tags on the tree and/or one Sunday afternoon in December to help sort, wrap, pack, deliver, or shop for gifts. 2017 Tag Night is Nov. 16, Sorting Gifts date is Dec. 10
Blood Drive Donation – Donate a pint of blood up to 4 times a year; March, June, September and/or December
Blood Drive Phone Callers – Help make phone calls to donors and set up appointment times. Commitment: up to 4 times/year
Blood Drive Event Volunteers – At the blood drives volunteers to check people in, serve snacks, or supervise nursery. Commitment: up to 4 times/year
Respect Life Activities
National Life Chain – Stand on our church corner for one hour in silent prayer. Pro-life signs are furnished. Commitment: Sunday, October 14, 2018, 2-3 p.m.
Pray with Us – group prayer opportunities are available here and in Aurora. Each Friday at 8:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel, the Sorrowful Mother Novena is said. On the 3rd Friday of the month, we gather at the Planned Parenthood facility in Aurora for one hour of prayer. Commitment: according to your schedule
Join E-mail Tree – Be informed and act upon proposed abortion legislation.
Respect Life Committee – help accomplish parish education, concerns, and projects.
Respect Life Helpers – Help with project details such as flowers, delivering baby gifts, assisting with Life Chain, and leading prayers.
